衡水中学：争议中的“高考工厂”

Hengshui is a city in Hebei province. It is well known across China. But that’s not because it has a beautiful landscape. It’s because of a school there called Hengshui High School.
衡水是河北省的一个城市，它在中国广为人知。但这并不是因为它有美丽的风景，而是因为那里有一所名为“衡水中学”的学校。

The school has a nickname: the gaokao factory. It does all it can to make its students study hard. There are many strict rules. For example, they set times for students to eat and go to the toilet. Another rule is that students have to get up at 5:30 am and go for a run. There are many discussions about the rules.
这所学校有个绰号：“高考工厂”。它竭尽所能让学生努力学习，有许多严格的规定。例如，规定学生吃饭和上厕所的时间；另一条规定是学生必须在早上5:30起床去跑步。关于这些规则有很多讨论。

This month, the school opened a new school in Pinghu, Zhejiang. This started another hot discussion.
本月，该校在浙江平湖开设了一所新分校，这又引发了一场热烈讨论。

Some people say the school only cares about the exam scores. It is not good for the all-round development of students, wrote The Beijing News.
《新京报》写道，有些人认为这所学校只关心考试成绩，不利于学生的全面发展。

However, some think that although not everyone agrees with the school’s rules, it gives students a way to get into the best universities.
然而，也有人认为，尽管并非所有人都认同学校的规章制度，但它确实为学生提供了进入顶尖大学的途径。

Last year, 139 of its students went to Peking University and Qinghua University, reported China Youth Daily. The number is the highest among all Chinese high schools.
据《中国青年报》报道，去年该校有139名学生考入北京大学和清华大学，这一数字在全国所有高中中位居首位。
