Baidu’s AI Business Shines Amid Weak Advertising Performance

Baidu reported a strong rise in artificial intelligence revenue in the third quarter, even as its overall business faced a downturn. The company said AI-related income jumped 50% year on year, becoming the main bright spot in an otherwise disappointing financial period.Total revenue fell 7% to 31.2 billion yuan (US$4.4 billion), mainly due to sluggish demand in its core online advertising business. Baidu also recorded a net loss of 11.2 billion yuan, largely driven by asset writedowns.Despite these setbacks, Baidu highlighted the rapid growth of its AI operations, including cloud infrastructure, AI applications, and marketing services. These segments generated 10 billion yuan in revenue, offering a buffer against the decline in traditional advertising.
