South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix reported its highest quarterly profit, overtaking rival Samsung for the first time. Its operating profit soared 20-fold to Won8.1tn ($5.6bn) in Q4 2024, driven by strong sales of advanced memory chips. SK Hynix expects high-bandwidth memory (HBM) sales to more than double this year, fueled by growing AI investments. The company’s HBM chips, crucial for AI servers, accounted for 40% of its total DRAM revenue in Q4.
