China’s major tech companies are beginning to see early returns from their aggressive investment in artificial intelligence, with firms like Kuaishou and Tencent reporting clear business gains in their latest quarterly results.
Kuaishou, the country’s second-largest short-video platform and key competitor to Douyin, said its third-quarter revenue growth was strongly supported by AI-driven upgrades. The company highlighted improvements in marketing solutions and the rising use of its Kling video tool, which helped boost both engagement and advertiser efficiency.
As a result, revenue from online marketing services rose 14% to 20.1 billion yuan (US$2.81 billion), while income from other services surged 41.3% to 5.9 billion yuan during the quarter ending in September.
Analysts say these early returns suggest that China’s tech giants are entering a new phase where AI investments begin to translate into real commercial value. While AI development comes with high costs, many large firms follow a long-term ROI mindset, enabling them to absorb heavy upfront spending. Companies like Tencent and Kuaishou are doubling down on AI, betting that the technology will become central to future growth across entertainment, advertising, and digital services.
