A new OECD survey reveals Singapore’s teachers are among the most overworked globally, averaging 47.3 hours a week, far above the OECD average of 41. Over a quarter report feeling “a lot” of stress, mainly due to heavy administrative workloads. The Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) polled 3,500 teachers from 155 schools, showing stress levels in Singapore outpace those in other developed nations. Education Minister Desmond Lee said the findings provide valuable insights to improve teacher support systems and enhance work-life balance. While Singapore’s education standards remain high, the report highlights an urgent need to ease teacher workload and strengthen mental health support.
