He screeched and beckoned to Jack and Annie.
它喊叫着朝杰克和安妮招手。
The two of them vanished into the rain forest.
他们俩消失在雨林里。
“He wants us to follow him!” said Annie.
“它要我们跟着它！”安妮说。
“Where are you?”
“你在哪儿？”
The monkey took off. He swung from tree to tree, heading up the riverbank.
猴子跑出来，它在树与树之间不停地跳跃，朝着岸边来了。
Annie was kneeling on the forest floor. She was playing with an animal that looked like a giant kitten.
安妮正跪在地上，和一只看上去像大号的小猫咪一样的动物玩耍呢。
“Annie!”
“安妮！”
Soon he found the monkey. He was screeching and swinging from a tree.
不久就看到了那只猴子，它正叫着在一棵树上摇摆。
He dashed after Annie and the monkey. Into the dark forest.
他只好循着安妮和那只猴子冲进了阴暗的雨林。
“No! We have to find the special thing. Then go home!” said Jack.
“不行。我们必须去找那个特别的东西，然后回家！”杰克说。
Jack looked up. It was still raining. But the treetops acted like a huge umbrella.
杰克抬头看了看，此时仍然在下雨，可是厚密的树梢就像一把巨大的雨伞挡住了雨水。
The forest seemed surprisingly dry.
雨林看上去出人意料的干。
“I don’t know, but I love it!” said Annie.
“我不知道，但是我喜欢它！”安妮说。
The rain was starting to fall harder.
雨下得越来越大了。
“Oh, brother,” said Jack.
“噢！真是的！”杰克说。
“Annie?” called Jack.
“安妮？”杰克叫道。
“Jack! Jack!” cried Annie.
“杰克！杰克！”安妮喊道。
Jack hurried in the direction of Annie’s voice.
杰克赶紧朝着安妮声音的方向跑去。
“Here!”
“这儿！”
Thunder shook the sky.
雷声震天响。
“What’s that?” Jack said.
“那是什么？”杰克说。
“He wants to help us!” said Annie. She took off after the monkey.
“它想要帮助我们！”安妮说，她跟着猴子往前走去。
Jack and Annie jumped out of the canoe.
杰克和安妮跳出了独木舟。
Suddenly the monkey swooped down from his tree. He grabbed the jaguar’s tail!
突然，那只猴子突然从一棵树上飞扑下来抓住了美洲豹的尾巴！
Annie batted the animal’s paws. It had gold fur and black spots.
安妮拍了拍小动物的爪子，它有着金色的皮毛和黑色的斑点。
“Forget cute,” Jack said. “That must be a baby jaguar. It’s going to grow up and be the biggest predator in –“
“别觉得可爱了！”杰克说，“那肯定是一只小美洲豹，不久就会长大变成这里最厉害的掠食者。”
Jack found a picture of an animal with gold fur and black spots. He read: The jaguar is the biggest predator in the western hemisphere.
杰克找到了一张长着金色皮毛和黑色斑点的动物的图片，他读道：美洲豹是西半球体形最大的食肉动物。
“What’s a predator?” asked Annie.
“什么是掠食者？”安妮问道。
“Help,” said Jack weakly.
“救命。”杰克小声说。
Jack whirled around.
杰克一转身。
The mother jaguar was coming out from behind a tree. She was creeping over the dead leaves — right toward Annie.
一只母美洲豹正从一棵树后面出来，它正在落叶上蹑手蹑脚地爬着，朝着安妮过来了！
Jack and Annie took off through the rain forest. They ran for their lives!
杰克和安妮在雨林里拔腿狂奔，他们这可是在逃命哪！
“Run, Annie!” cried Jack.
“快跑，安妮！”杰克大喊道。
The cat roared and spun around.
母豹咆哮着转了个圈。
Annie froze. But the jaguar kept moving slowly toward her.
安妮不敢动了，可是那只母美洲豹仍然在缓缓地朝着她移动。
“I’d better find out what it is,” said Jack. He pulled out the rain forest book and flipped through it.
“我最好看看这是什么动物。”杰克说。他拿出热带雨林的书，在里面翻找着。
Annie jumped up.
安妮一跃跳了起来。
The monkey pulled the jaguar’s tail again. Then he let go and took off.
猴子又拉住了美洲豹的尾巴，然后放手跑开了。
“Freeze!” whispered Jack.
“别动！”杰克小声说。
“Oh, it’s so cute,” said Annie.
“噢！它太可爱了。”安妮说。
GRRR! There was a terrible growl.
就在这时，传来一声可怕的吼叫声。
The jaguar sprang after him.
母豹一跃而起追赶那只猴子去了。
