Taiwan’s TSMC reported record third-quarter revenue on October 8, as surging demand for artificial-intelligence chips kept the world’s largest contract chipmaker on a tear. Revenue for the three months to September reached 1.49 trillion Taiwan dollars, about 46.7 billion US dollars, up 51 percent from a year earlier and beating analyst forecasts. September sales alone were 511.9 billion Taiwan dollars. For the first nine months of 2026, revenue totaled 3.89 trillion Taiwan dollars. Advanced technologies, defined as 7-nanometer and below, accounted for 74 percent of wafer revenue, with 3-nanometer chips making up 23 percent and 5-nanometer 37 percent. TSMC said cloud providers continued to expand AI computing capacity, signaling that the chip boom is far from over.
