Tencent missed first-quarter revenue estimates as gaming sales growth slowed. CEO Pony Ma admitted the company’s AI progress had struggled, comparing it to “a leaking boat,” but said a turnaround had begun. Tencent recently launched “Hy3 preview,” its new flagship AI model led by former OpenAI researcher Yao Shunyu. Despite having only 295 billion parameters, the model quickly topped OpenRouter rankings for token usage. President Martin Lau said Tencent had rebuilt its AI systems and training processes from the ground up to compete in the fast-growing AI market.
